Former PM Saad Hariri defended his choice of supporting MP Sleiman Frangieh for heading the Lebanese state, saying that his initiative "springs from the fact that there were four candidates to the presidency and we thereby chose to support one among the four who is Sleiman Frangieh."

Hariri's fresh stance came Friday during a lunch banquet set in his honor by Mufti of Tripoli and the North, Sheikh Malik Al Chaar.

Hariri said, "It's about time to behave as Lebanese and head to the Parliament in order to elect a president," indicating that those who are disrupting the election of a president "are paralysing the country and the first position for Christians."

Meanwhile, "Democratic Gathering" leader, MP Walid Jumblatt and former Prime Minister Saad Hariri urged on Friday night MPs to imminently elect a president".

Jumblatt met at his Clemenceau residence with former Prime Minister Saad Hariri and in the presence of ministers and MPs, NNA field reporter said.

Following the meeting Hariri said that this visit aimed at carrying out discussions regarding the presidential elections.

"The absence of a president is causing all the troubles in Lebanon whether at security, livelihood or social levels," Hariri asserted.

"We have agreed with Jumblatt that the presidential issue is vital to all the Lebanese. We have three candidates then all the MPs should resort to Parliament and elect a president," Hariri concluded.

From his part, Jumblatt pushed for swift presidential elections.

"Void at the presidency post harms the country at different levels," the MP concluded.
