Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri met this afternoon with the Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin Palace, in the presence of Minister of Interior and Municipalities Nohad Mashnouk, former MP Ghattas Khoury, Premier Hariri's Chief of Staff Nader Hariri and his advisor for Russian Affairs Georges Chaaban.


The meeting was also attended by President Putin's foreign affairs advisor Yuri Ushakov and his special envoy to the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Michael Bogdanov.


The meeting, which included a tête-à-tête between President Putin and Premier Hariri, lasted one hour.


It focused on the situation in Lebanon and the efforts of Hariri to end the Presidential vacuum and elect a President. Discussions also tackled the developments in the region, particularly in Syria and the efforts exerted by Russia to reach a solution to the Syrian crisis.

Earlier, Hariri received the representative of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East Archbishop Niphon Saikali.
