Future bloc congratulates al-Raï, appreciates Lebanese participation in March 14 commemoration

Future parliamentary bloc congratulated Tuesday new Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros al-Raï over his election for heading the Maronite Church and separately saw that the Lebanese people still embrace March 14's Intifada.

In a statement released following its periodic meeting, the bloc pointed that 'the occasion forms the end of the past phase when resorting to violence and illegitimate arms were adopted.”

The bloc meeting directed by its head, former Premier Fouad Siniora lauded 'the grand national stance the Lebanese expressed toward resisting Israeli aggression through legitimate arms.”

Future lawmakers congratulated the Lebanese and Christians and Maronites in particular for the election of the 77th Maronite Patriarch for Antioch and the East, Bechara al-Raï successor of Cardinal Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir.

They lauded 'the patriotic affiliation, culture and faith in Lebanon's sovereignty, freedom, independence and coexistence” Patriarch Raï possesses 'alongside his deep belief in Taef Agreement which became part of the constitution.”

The bloc thanked 'the Lebanese who came from all confessions and regions to answer March 14's call and participate in this national occasion, democratically voicing adherence to independence, justice and Lebanon's sovereignty.”

It assured that 'the Lebanese have proven their rejection to bids for terrorism, intimidation and unilateral ruling through directing illegitimate arms toward unarmed civilians who want to live safely under the state.”

The statement indicated that 'March 14 is a movement for independence, liberation from tutelage and determination to preserve freedom, democracy and changeover of power besides plurality, coexistence and abiding by the state.”

The bloc deemed that 'the message of March 14 can no longer be ignored for it reaffirms the role of the state and its institutions that have the priority in all issues rather than using illegitimate arms within Lebanon and against enemies, particularly Israel.”
