Hariri: Everything related to what was called S-S does not exist anymore

Prime Minister Saad Hariri held extensive talks which included the leaders of the March 14 Forces and economic and popular figures.

He also chaired a meeting of the Future Movement Politburo to discuss the political and governmental developments, and noted the following points:

First: The Future Movement stresses the necessity of adhering to the democratic process in any stage of power transfer. The developments that accompanied the parliamentary consultations carried by the President of the Republic came as part of a planned scheme and harsh external pressures that aimed at changing the rules of the democratic game, just as was the case in 2004 with the extension of the President's mandate. This was refused by large groups of Lebanese who found in it an unacceptable stab that led to popular reactions, where noble feelings were mixed with some intense behavior, unfamiliar with the political and popular behavior of the Future Movement and its supporters all over the Lebanese territories.

Second: Our exit from power is not the result of the announcement of the results of the parliamentary consultations, but came as a result of external instructions prepared since a few months and implemented by local tools. We have been aware of these instructions and dealt with them since the first moment as an attempt to go back in time and impose Prime Ministers and other positions through outside interference and internal intimidation. Thus, we announced before the beginning of consultations that we will not withdraw our nomination to the Prime Ministry, although we knew before hand the end results. After that, new realities unfolded before us and before all the Lebanese, and faces appeared on the screens to announce the control of the Prime Ministry and demand the dismissal of so and so and announce the exit of a name from the equation and his replacement by another.

Third: The Future Movement finds itself now in its natural position, in the first line of defense of the democratic system. It is the position that was chosen by Martyr Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in 1998 and then in 2004-2005. It is the political space that corresponds with his national convictions and his obligations to all the Lebanese people regarding the crucial issues facing Lebanon and our democratic system. These issues were approached by the Future Parliamentary Bloc in its declared position after the parliamentary consultations, whether with the President of the Republic or with the premier-designate.

Fourth: We announced after the parliamentary consultations that what preceded them is different from what will follow them. And it seems that some people don't want to deal with this announcement, and want to build on some announcements here and there regarding the settlements and the papers that were prepared for it.

But in order to put an end to any interpretation or fraud, I announce to the Future Movement leadership, and through you to all Lebanese, that everything related to what was called S-S (Saudi-Syrian) has become from the past and does not exist in the dictionary of Saad Hariri or the Future Movement and any building on what was said, published, falsified or distorted, has ended and does not exist. No paper or clauses related to the work of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon and its relation with the Lebanese State were ratified or signed, and I objectively suppose that there is a big difference between discussing specific ideas, and signing or ratifying them. Anyway, we withdraw all that has been discussed and things remain as they were.

Fifth: The Future Movement, with all its popular, regulatory and operational sectors, is responsible of protecting civil peace and the requirements of co-existence among all the Lebanese.

Each leader and member of the movement is responsible of translating this approach into words and actions. They should not slide to the political sectarian or factional rhetoric which contradicts the essence of the political education planted in us by Martyr Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

If the street is a means of political expression, it should never turn into a weapon through which we show our superiority over the others, or a way to break the law or show hostility to the state and its institutions.

We are the sons of this State and we are its protectors. We are the solid bridge to cross into the modern state and the sound democratic system. The next phase will witness continuous work with you and with all the organizational sectors in Beirut and all the Lebanese regions to translate our steps in this regard.

Sixth: A few days separate us from the sixth anniversary of the martyrdom of Martyr Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, MP Bassel Fleihan and their companions. This occasion will be, as every year, an occasion to unify the Lebanese around the cause of justice and truth and to refuse the organized political crime.

On this occasion, I call upon you to study the suggestions and steps within the framework of the Future Movement and the coordination and interaction with all allies. This would elevate this day to the level of honoring Martyr Prime Minister and all Lebanon's Martyrs and specify the course of commemoration during the next few days.
