In his first day of meetings in the Egyptian Capital, Cairo, Kataeb Party Head, Amin Gemayel, met with a number of Egyptian officials, which he began by a meeting with Egyptian President, Husni Mubarak, at the Egyptian Presidential Palace.

Gemayel's talks with President Mubarak touched on the latest developments on the Lebanese local scene, and the Arab and international efforts that can contribute to preserving freedom and democracy in Lebanon, as well as supporting the work of legitimate institutions. The encounter was also a chance for touching on latest developments in the region, with special attention devoted to the situation of Christian Copts in Egypt and the attacks they have faced. Gemayel stressed on the need for such attacks for be halted as soon as possible, so as to avoid the danger of transferring to other areas and countries.

In a statement on emerging, Gemayel praised the efforts exerted by the Egyptian President for the sake of supporting stability and dialogue in Lebanon, and all Egyptian efforts for the sake of consensus in the Country. He added that the encounter with President Mubarak was a chance to stress the need for boosting the role of institutions and helping Lebanon out of its "damp". He noted that what is sought for at the current stage is boosting true consensus, the Lebanese-Lebanese consensus, away from any foreign interferences. He stressed that their concern is supporting the Lebanese State and putting a limit to anything that hinders the path of national institutions, especially outside interferences.

Gemayel went on to indicate that what is currently taking place regarding the parliamentary consultations is actually an "armed pressure" attempt on certain forces for the sake of turning against democracy. Hence, he considered that Lebanon is in need of the international community's support for the sake of facing the "coup d'etat" that some are trying to enforce.

Gemayel also paid a visit Sheikh of the Azhar, Greater Imam, Dr. Ahmad Al-Tayeb, with whom he conferred over the Christian-Muslim relations.

In a statement by the Azhar, it indicated that the "Azhar El-Sherif" is the home of every Arab. It added that the Arab Christians are a true part of the Arab world's entity, and that the flourishing of Christian societies is a basic factor in civilization enrichment in the East. Hence, it stressed keen concern for maintaining constructive dialogue with all followers of heavenly religions all together.

The statement went on to call on all Lebanese to unify their ranks for the sake of preserving their security in the face of any Israeli aggression that targets their coexistence and stability.

Al-Azhar statement welcomed the communication with former President Gemayel, considering him as a man of state and intellect and a Lebanese prominent leader.
