March 14th Forces declared today their refusal to partake in the upcoming new government and launched a peaceful, democratic opposition for the sake of defending the Republic and protecting the Constitution. They attributed their decision to Prime Minister Designate's inability to provide clear answers; in addition to their rejection of legitimizing the current "coup d'etat" and to being transformed into helpless witnesses incapable of preventing conflicts.

This declaration came following the meeting this evening at Bristol Hotel by March 14th deputies, which was attended by Caretaking Prime Minister, Saad Hariri; President Amin Gemayel; former PM Fuad Siniora; Lebanese Forces Executive Council Head, Samir Geagea; and various deputies of March 14th, in absence of MP's Nayla Tueini, Sami Gemayel, Ghazi Youssef, Ziad Al-Kadri, Hadi Hobeish and Imad Hout.

In their final statement entitled, "In Defense of the Republic and Protection of the Constitution," which was read out by former PM Siniora, the conferees stated that their meeting today was devoted to evaluating the latest developments related to new government formation.

The statement indicated that the latest political developments in the country, especially in the wake of March 8th Forces' violation of the Doha Agreement and resignation from the cabinet; thus, hindering the national unity government's persistence, have come to prove that the sole aim is to plunge the country into a new period of solidifying the outcome of their "coup d'etat". The statement added that the manner in which the previous government of national unity was failed and the threatening ambience of weapon power resorted to by March 8th Forces, actually prove the latter's will to continue further in striking all attempts to form a balanced government, through drowning the government formation mechanism in impossible conditions and bonds.

The statement went on to indicate that such a manner adopted by members of the other team violates the values of March 14th and the Constitutional principles and norms; as well as the efforts to preserve national unity, mutual co-existence life, and the democratic parliamentary regime which protects citizens' rights and achievement of justice; putting an end to all crimes through remaining attached to the Special International Tribunal for Lebanon and putting a limit to all weapons outside the State's legitimacy.

Hence, March 14th Forces voiced their rejection to partaking in a government, in which they would be mere witnesses incapable of preventing violations, deviations and transgressions. They added that any targeting of the President of the Republic and Designated Prime Minister's prerogatives stands as a "conspiracy". They also strongly denounced and refuted the exceeding practices witnessed during the phase of appointing the new Prime Minister and forming the government; considering such actions as being a "coup d'etat" against the Constitution and the democratic regime through the use of weapons' power. In confrontation of such a "coup d'etat", various March 14th members, thus, decided not to partake in the upcoming government; launching instead a peaceful, democratic opposition that would protect the State and Constitution.
