Wahab: Mikati-led cabinet would not survive for few months

Druze leader of the Unification Party Wi'am Wahhab, told the Russian ambassador Alexander Zasypkin that it would not be provocative for Prime Minister-designate Mikati to take him or his likes aboard his cabinet.

He questioned how he or his likes would be regarded as provocative at a time when he takes up an Arab patriotic line?! Amid ongoing squabbling over cabinet portfolios, Wahhab indicated his full right to a piece of cake in a Mikati cabinet.

He criticized Mikati's approach in dealing with whom he designated as Arab nationalists anticipating that any Mikati-led cabinet would not survive for few months provided that the PM-designate does something to remedy his approach.

Wahhab prided himself to be provocative par excellence of being anti-American anti-Israeli.

He reportedly called on Russia to assume a bigger role in regional politics but insisted on not joining the Mikati-led government unless he is allowed to demonstrate his power of provoking others.

Meanwhile, Lebanese Forces Deputy Antoine Zahra said Saturday during a radio interview that PM-designate Najib Mikati announced he would be neutral and would stand at an equal distance from all when forming the government without any pressure from Hezbollah and Iran; however, had Hezbollah wanted a neutral PM, they wouldn't have staged a coup on Saad Hariri to oust the government and form a cabinet tailored to fit the aspirations of March 8 Camp.

"Mikati was not March 8 Camp's first choice as PM-designate, and was chosen in haste once Omar Karami declined the conditions put by Hezbollah and their allies," the MP revealed that one of these conditions was for Karami to drop the STL. Mikati was therefore chosen without reaching a pre-agreement with him concerning March 8 political project. "They are betting on [Mikati's] relations with Syria and personal connection with Assad."

Care-taker PM Saad Hariri showed willingness to forego of the STL if in return there was a valid promise that political assassinations would cease indefinitely, and an end was put to illegal weapons as well as Palestinian arms outside refugee camps, demarcation of Lebanese boarders were finalized, and release of Lebanese detainees in Syrian prisons. These conditions were what March 14 martyrs died for, hence, in that case only would justice be served outside the tribunal.

When asked about the stances of MP Michel Aoun, Zahra said that Aoun was obsessed with power and changed his stances and visions accordingly, "He is proud of discussing governmental issues with President Assad." Zahra cut the Aoun discussion short by stating that it was a waste of time discussing what Aoun says since it did not serve the future of Christians in the East, but simply served Aoun's personal project to become president, "there is no room for logic with Aoun." Yet, what remained self-evident was Aoun's announcement that anyone who wanted to be part of the government must follow Aoun's political line, that of Syria and Iran.

Zahra concluded that the government will not form in the coming few days. "Our only objective is freedom, dignity and sovereignty, and what is happening in the Middle East confirms that the people's dream of liberation...cannot be kidnapped or stopped by anyone."
