The Dar el Fatwa affirmed the Lebanese's adherence to reconciled relations with the international community and their commitment to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon as a guarantee to justice and stability.

'The sense of injustice or exclusion of any group at the national level creates a sectarian conflict within the community,”

Islamic dignitaries met Thursday at Dar al-Fatwa, under Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Qabbani,

Prime Minister Saad Hariri, former PM Fouad Siniora and PM-designate Najib Mikati attended the meeting; however, PM Omar Karami boycotted the meeting, while PM Salim Hoss, who is currently in the KSA apologized, and PM Rashid Solh apologized for health reasons.

We want to ensure the protection of the public system on the basis of the national accord.

A statement issue following the meeting cited 8 points:

'1. All the Lebanese people want to establish a state through a democratic system which guarantees diversity and does not exclude any sect.

2. Co-living (between Muslims and Christians) is the basic foundation of Lebanon's existence, despite all interferences. The national democratic system cannot find a way to develop due to aspirations hiding beneath hegemonic forces which aims at tampering with the priorities, however, for us, a full and nonselective implementation of the constitution with its current form and essence is imperative.

3. The basic elements of the regime are: A Christian President, Shiite Speaker, and Sunni Prime Minister, not in terms of special benefits, but pertaining national responsibility. Secluding a whole community incites a clash within the sect while would put the national stability at risk.

4. Tolerance. Lebanon has endured many tragedies, resulting from the defiance of some groups to the system which even allowed assassinations as a way to get rid of opponents. These tragedies have fractured the national structure, thus national stability cannot be maintained unless through ensuring the right to be different and the right of free thought.

5. Lebanon has one state, of an Arab identity, thus the Lebanese people adhere to the STL as a guarantee to justice and stability.

6. Pertaining to the Palestinian Cause, it is still the foremost Arab cause. Resisting the Zionist project has several means, and Lebanon has always been the foundation of the nation's unity.

7. As for relations with Syria, we will spare no effort to restore these relations within its natural framework to attain a balance of rights and duties among both states.

8. The Lebanese and Muslims adhere to reconciled relations with the international community.
