President of the Republic, General Michel Sleiman, sent a cable of condolences to his Egyptian Counterpart, Husni Mubarak, in which he expressed his deep remorse for the victims that fell as a result of the attack against the 'Saints Church" in Alexandria. Sleiman strongly condemned the painful, terrorist attack which targeted innocent citizens who gathered in the Church to pray while welcoming the first hours of the New Year.

Sleiman considered that such a shocking act contradicts with all holy religions and the least of human and religious values. He added that the perpetrators of such a crime actually aim at lighting the fire of sectarianism in Egypt.

Furthermore, in a call to President Mubarak, President Sleiman classified the crime as falling within the framework of a "terrorist policy" that rejects the other and targets coexistence between various religions and sects in the Arab world. He hoped that the Lord will grant the mourning families patience and strength to be able to overcome the painful loss; while hoping that the Egyptian government would be able to unveil the crime perpetrators' identity.

Sleiman expressed Lebanon's support to Egypt in confronting such a terrorist act and in the efforts to boost the spirit of solidarity, consensus and brotherhood amongst the Egyptian people.

President Sleiman also called Pope Shenouda, condemning the terrorist crime and expressing his sincere condolences for the fallen victims.
